Quick DIY: Baby Vision Mobile

14/10/2016 by kimberley Leave a Comment

So we made it through another week, and Friday has dawned bright and sunny with the scent of flowers permeating through the house. Actually, that might be the eucalyptus and peppermint oil in the humidifier as we are still all coughing up the black lung (come on Summer, come on).

Benjamin has headed off to the beach with Granny and his nanny Nthabi, and I am trying to squeeze in blogging time, laundry and a cup of tea before Oliver decides to grace the silence with his voice once again. Just kidding! No, but really.

So he is almost two months old already – time is certainly flying – and so I thought I better get myself into gear and start with the developmental stuff that I put so much effort into with Benjamin. We’ve been doing tummy time as often as we can (or as often as mommy remembers), and getting a good eye in with the mobile gym. One of the things I’ve tackled this week has been the ‘ol black and white vision cards. Did you know that a newborn can only focus about 30cm, and bold black and white shapes are the easiest things for them to focus on?

This kind of puts all the cute pastel dingle-dangles into perspective doesn’t it.

Since I still don’t have a printer at home (DIY printables right), I’ve constructed my own black and white hanging mobiles from old gift bags. We have SO many of these things and luckily a couple had a great black and white print on. Super easy to do, simply cut up, fold them in half, cut out a few choice shapes and glue together. String them up on your change table mobile, baby gym, car seat, pram and cot so that baby can see them wherever he is.

If you’d like the easy way out, check out this GREAT printable resource of awesome black and white shapes that you can stick around your baby’s cot and other areas.

For those of you not concerned with baby DIY, here’s a SUPER new recipe that I tried this week – it’s hash-fantastic and that’s all I’m saying 🙂

Have a Lovely Happy weekend!
